fire click event HELP?

I have a two part page consisting of a grid and edit controls. My "click" event populates the edit controls with the selected grid (row) data. That works great. Now, I would like to call the "click" method programatically when my page refreshes. I'm currently setting the obj1.setProperty("selection/index", rowselected) to the current record, but I need to fire the "click" action. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
