js code all on one line?

I understand that the runtime version is compressed for delivery/production purposes, but can someone explain to me why the one I find under source looks so different? It seems that the one under source imports from a lot of subdirectories to build itself... my main question is if I make changes to the library, can I create my own runtime "flat" version from that?
