headers and sub headers

if one header have 3 colums.
like header="column1$column2$column3"
here is there any possiblity to divide column2 into another 2 sub columns.
like
column1 column2 column3
-------- ----------------- -----------
subcol1 subcol2
------- -------
-------- ------- ------- ----------
-------- ------- ------- ----------
-------- ------- ------- ----------

i want data is in 4 columns with 3 headers colums( column2 have 2 sub col) . is this possible?any one please help.
