doctype and (grid in grid) standards compliance quirks

k, I've read a lot about the new version supporting standards compliance doctypes. But I'm having heck trying to get the grid in grid example working properly in firefox and ie with the following doctype call:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

This has become the four hundred and ninety five dollar question.

Please please please help me :)

Oh my god, how incredibly frustrating.

IE won't open the doggone inner grid if the outer grid is wrapped with a <p> tag...

I got it working in IE and firefox. Finally, it's freaking 4:30 in the morning. But I'll have to re-do my html (major cleanup) because the hotdog thang don't wanna work wid da doctype that's offered by vis stud 2008! shoot dang crap!

no help needed, I think????????????????????????? besides the obvious.
