Callback after Grid is rendered

Is a callback function available after the grid has finished rendering?

I am currently using the table.response and am looking for a similar function for the grid. I find that in both IE and FF, during the time while the grid is rendering, after the data has been received, the browser is blocked enough that UI animation is affected. I am using an expanding tree to select items upon which to retrieve a grid, and the animation of the tree expansion is affected by the grid rendering. If it were possible to know when the grid rendering is complete, I could account for this delay and still keep the UI responsive.
