Strange combo events with this.getContent.setStyle (v2.5)

A rather odd issue with 2.5.1 in IE only (fine in Firefox any version and fine in IE with v2.0). I'm getting the onControlTextChanged event firing for a combo when I use:

this.getContent("box/text").setStyle("color","#123456#");

All worked fine before and somewhat baffled. Happy to use a different method, basically trying to change the font colour once a selection has been made in the Combo.
